What You'll Get
During the Victorian era, cookies were known as "sweet biscuits" and were eaten only by paupers, who were forced to substitute rich, hearty tallow with inexpensive sugar. Relish this sweet substitution with today's Groupon: for $5, you get a baker's dozen of cookies (an $11 value) at Pacific Cookie Company, located downtown on Pacific Avenue.
Family owned and operated, Pacific Cookie Company has whipped up more than a dozen varieties of freshly baked cookies for the past 30 years. The bakery strives to use natural ingredients whenever possible, including Guittard chocolate, unbleached flour, and no trans fats. Today’s deal gets you a baker’s dozen (13) of delicious cookies––opt for one flavor, such as classic chocolate chip, or mix and match from some of their other varieties, such as dark-chocolate cranberry, lemon drop, and snickerdoodle. Dr. Midnight is a triple-chocolate cookie with chocolate syrup and cocoa power that gave up a fledgling career in late-night radio to make taste buds sing a tune, and oatmeal raisin tastes just like Grandma used to make without the obligatory hours spent balling yarn and listening to wax-cylinder recordings of other people knitting.
Conveniently located downtown and less than a mile from the beach, Pacific Cookie Company bakes its cookies at a higher temperature than most other commercial bakeries to ensure a crispy outer shell and a chewy, moist center, a veritable one-two punch to the tender, pugilism-challenged tongue. Aside from its attempts to use sustainable ingredients whenever possible, Pacific Cookie also donates $1 from every online gift purchase to the Cookies For Kids' Cancer organization, highlighting its philanthropic commitment.

About Pacific Cookie Company
After a decade of researching and perfecting cookie recipes, Larry and Shelly Pearson opened Pacific Cookie Company in 1980. Their cookie operation has expanded since those early days, when they focused on just five flavors. They now whip together 13 flavors of cookies, each consisting of simple, quality ingredients, such as Guittard chocolate, pure vanilla extract, cane sugar, and unbleached flour. Cookies are dished out alongside scoops of locally-sourced favorite, Marianne's Ice Cream. If you can't make it to Pacific Cookie Company's Berkeley or Santa Cruz shops, don't fret. The company ships its cookies—along with gift baskets, cookie tins, and gift boxes—to customers around the solar system.
