Nowadays, "fun" is the favored theme of theme parks. In the early days, "melancholy" and "existential horror" were once just as common, featuring rides such as the Stand-in-Line-O-Whirl and the Bottomless Clown-Filled Pit. Celebrate the enjoyable end of the emotional spectrum with today's Groupon. For $10, you get unlimited rides at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica pier. The park's whimsical schedule has the gates closing at irregular hours, so inspect it carefully with a calabash pipe in hand before departing for a day of whirling, swirling, and mole whacking. This deal is not valid on Independence Day.

When you cross into the domain of Inkie, the park's purple-octopus mascot and resident tap-dancing machine, you'll trade your gilded Groupon for a fashionable unlimited-ride bracelet. This bracelet empowers its bearer to board as many rides as allowed by equilibrium over the course of the day. Wander slack eyed among the park's 12 rides (two more are on the way this summer), including the world's only solar-powered Ferris wheel, the 130-foot Pacific Wheel, which gives riders an up-and-down panoramic view of Southern California. Other rides include the pendulous Sea Dragon and the nine-story Pacific Plunge, among others.

Exhausted, trembling, and craving more, thrill seekers can reenergize with a variety of games such as the Break a Plate, competition-driven Pacific Peak climbing wall, and Wac-a-Mole. When competition, adrenaline, and carrying armfuls of overstuffed trophy teddy bears leave you hungry, the park offers multiple eateries, including Taco Bell, Harbor Grill, Café Inkie, and more. The pier-side park makes for a scenic, fun-filled getaway for families, first dates, and first families alike.

Reviews

Some reviewers think Pacific Park is best enjoyed by daylight and recommend wearing closed-toed shoes instead of flip-flops. Five TripAdvisors give the park four owl eyes, while Yelpers and six Citysearchers give it 3.5:

  • The Ferris Wheel offers unbeatable views of the coast. – Anna W., Yelp
  • This place is great for young children! There are enough rides and games to keep kids really interested- and you only have to spend a fraction of the amount you would spend at a big amusement park. – dkfoltz, Citysearch

About Pacific Park

Pacific Park’s attractions celebrate Santa Monica Pier’s history with classic rides that run with modern technology. The Pacific Wheel uses solar energy to circle 130 feet into the air, where fist bumps from the man in the moon and scenic views of the coastline await. The energy-efficient attraction is one of many rides, which include classics such as a roller coaster, a four-story tower drop, and the tilt-a-whirl Shark Frenzy, where riders sit comfortably in the mouths of seven kinds of sharks. In addition, they'll soon open up the Seaside Swing in the Kid's Cove area. Visitors can earn prizes at midway games, refuel at the food court or the on-site taco joint Whac-a-mole Tacos, and get their adrenaline pumping on Gyro Loop or Beach Bounce.
