George and Ed are amazing instructors. Patient, explain skills clearly and make sure you know the material for the class and pool instruction. I had a bit of a panic attack, I appreciate how patient and caring George was towards me. Thank you. Also, the store staff is great, they know their stuff and will recommend scuba equipment.

If foam noodles can be found floating on the surface of almost every pool, think how many perfectly salted meatballs must be at the bottom of the ocean. Discover the sea's sunken treats with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a Discover Scuba Diving class (a $50 value) at Pacific Wilderness in San Pedro. Consult the sidebar to see available class dates (times TBD, based on demand).

Discover Scuba Diving starts with a classroom session that bestows mer-pupils with skills and safety rules that will carry over should they continue their dive education or decide to move underwater once and for all. After the land-based learning, students start pool sessions, which last until wrinkling fingers require divers to return to terra firma. In the on-site heated diving pool, swimmers can test out new gills in the comfortably temperate water (around 86 degrees) while wearing the provided scuba gear. Test the weightlessness of water while wearing a waterproof outfit with fashionable accessories including a regulator system, tank, weight belt, and wetsuit and hood. Participants should bring a swimsuit and towel, as well as a full container of undivided attention. All dives occur under the direct supervision of a PADI-certified professional, in a protected pool that is starkly devoid of close-swimming schools of atomic eels.

The next step in the scuba progression is Pacific Wilderness's OpenWater beginner's class. If Groupon holders sign up for this class within seven days of first tasting bottled oxygen in Discover Scuba, $25 will be applied to the OpenWater class tuition, effectively zeroing out the cost of this Groupon. Call to schedule your under-pool Discover Scuba appointment.

Must be at least 10 years old.

About Pacific Wilderness

Jacques Cousteau had barely slipped the first scuba tank off his back when Pacific Wilderness opened its doors in 1953. Since then, the shop’s staffers have used their collective expertise to outfit divers & professionals with high-quality equipment from brands including Aqualung, Scubapro, Oceanic, Seaquest, and Zeagle.

They also teach PADI scuba-certification courses that range from basic open-water training to Instructor Training. Lessons start at the on-land facility's heated pool but progress to weekend-long dives in the waters of Redondo Beach. The shop's scuba-philes also arrange journeys to exotic locales such as the Sipadan Water Village Resort in Malaysia and the secret depths of Camp David's presidential bathtub.

I really enjoyed the dive instruction and course. Just be aware you'll spend another $300 or so on the gear you need to own: Fins, booties, gloves, snorkel, and mask.

Yes, this is true if you go for the Higher End stuff. However, you can spend as little as $150 on the Gear and still get the $70 Book package for FREE. We always encourage people to go for the gear that fits best and suits your needs based on the type of diving you'll be doing. It's obvious you were more serious about your future in diving and you chose to get what was best for you. We always appreciate those - like you - who plan on continuing to dive.

Extremely knowledgeable and incredible customer service! We took the Open Water Divers Class and could not be happier. They actually train the first half in a heated indoor pool. Outstanding!

My instructor was Josh. He did a good job at teaching the class. Very patient and easy going. If someone struggled with something he’d take the time to work with them until they feel comfortable. The staff at the shop were very helpful as well. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to learn to Scuba Dive
