What You'll Get
When Mother and Father Cream brought siblings Icey Cream and Gelato into the wintry world, they educated one stateside while the other was sent overseas to learn within Italian freezers. Today's Groupon traces the European pathway of young Gelato all the way back home to Paciugo: for $5, you get $10 worth of gelato, coffee, and other frozen delicacies. Hundreds of handmade flavors await curious palates at Paciugo's Lincoln Heights and La Cantera locations.
Paciugo's Latin motto, Ante Dunio Dessertium —meaning Before Dinner, Dessert—neatly summarizes its liberal three-scoops attitude. Its luscious cold creams contain 70% less fat than premium ice cream, thus making it 130% more okay to consume several consecutive pints' worth. A dessert that meets the FDA's standards for healthfulicious food, Paciugo's Turin recipes employ fresh and all-natural ingredients coupled with the finest fruit, nuts, chocolates and more to churn up scrumptious orbs of sweet sustenance. The gelaterie's menu ushers taste buds toward small picollo cups ($3.99) with three scoops and up to three different flavors, such as black raspberry, amaretto chocolate chip, chocolate black-cherry swirl, black-pepper olive oil, Mediterranean sea-salt caramel, chocolate orange saffron, and many more. The medio size includes four scoops and up to four different flavors ($4.99). Go for not really that broke with a three-scoop whipped-cream-topped sundae ($5.99) or a sugar-caffeine epiphany in the form of gelato nestled in espresso or cioccolata ($5.49). Each of Paciugo's rich, creamy delights is made from whole milk, soy, and water, and no-sugar-added options are available so that a suitable flavor can match with any dietary need, unless you're allergic to joy.
Food bloggers, including South Bay Rants n Raves, Pleasure Palate, and South Bay Foodies, are all abuzz about the generous gobs of gelato. Paciugo were also featured in My SanAntonio as a critic's choice. Yelpers give it a delicious five-star average:
- As smiling customers came and went, all were warmly welcomed or thanked, some by name. It was easy to see that the cozy store was a destination, something that people really looked forward to; maybe not just for the great gelato, but also for the friendly atmosphere. I’ll be going back for both. – Michael, South Bay Foodies
- I truly loved the ambiance. The staff was also very welcoming. They are very helpful whether it's your first or 100th visit. They are very knowledgeable of their product & they always offer free samples. The gelato is always fresh, and they change their flavors every day so you're never stuck with the same old thing. The portion sizes are just right for me and the fact that its lower in calories than cold stone is a plus. – Bianca, South Bay Rants & Raves
- Want a fat-free treat? Seek out the multi-colored sorbets with bright, bold flavors. – My San Antonio
