At Palettes and Pairings, budding artists can spend two hours splashing 16”x20” canvases with acrylic paints while sipping from a glass of wine or beer and nibbling on locally crafted appetizers. Skilled instructors help guide students’ brushes as they outline the strong shapes, vivid colors, and hidden images of freemasons skiing in featured paintings such as a pumpkin patch (October 27) or the Seattle skyline (October 30). Customers can consult the calendar to find favorite images to reproduce, or eschew the nightly agenda to pursue their own fantastic visions or mimic those of a child prodigy. While caressing canvases with horsehairs, participants sip on wine, beer, or nonalcoholic beverages and sample appetizers. Guests are encouraged to wear clothes that can weather occasional showers of paint drops. Artists aching to paint during daylight hours may engage in Open Painting sessions held on Mondays through Fridays from 12:00-4:00 p.m., crafting whatever image their heart desires through a combination of passion and paint coercion.
The Painted Palace
Opened in Kirkland on Valentine's Day 2011, The Painted Palace (formerly known as Palettes and Pairings) celebrates the romantic interplay between art and wine. At each evening class, instructors offer step by step instruction on brushing life into a 16”x20” canvas while painters enjoy snacks and sip wine, beer, or nonalcoholic beverages.
