Until mankind first stepped outside in 1934, nature was thought to be a fanciful myth, like yogurt or the clutch hitter. Support efforts to preserve the fresh air of truth with today’s Groupon to the Palmetto Conservation Foundation. Choose between three options:
• For $17, you get a one-year individual student membership (a $35 value). • For $25, you get a one-year individual membership (a $50 value). • For $50, you get a one-year family membership good for up to four people (a $100 value).
With its membership dollars directly funding trail building, nature preservation, and advocacy programs, the Palmetto Conservation Foundation (PCF) lovingly labors to protect South Carolina’s natural and historic wonders. Foundation members get a cornucopia of adventurous perks, such as free access to scheduled hikes, discounts on paddling trips and other events, and 10% off merchandise at local outdoor-goods stores and yeti-owned jerky shacks. Card carriers also score discounts on classes through the Glendale Outdoor Leadership School, which endows outdoorspeople of all ages with recreation and wilderness skills (summer camps not included). At least once a month, members also band together for day trips in and around the Palmetto Trail, where they may trek out to scenic Brasstown Falls, kayak on the pristine Catawba River, or knock coconuts together outside the impenetrable Fort Jackson. Individual and family members get 10% off on all PCF books and merchandise, as well as a free gift.
Through the contributions of its members, the PCF has stewarded 20,000 acres of wildlife habitat, preserved 550 acres of Revolutionary War battlefields, and laid out 290 miles of trail for public excursions. New members ensure these efforts continue, bringing in additional funding for projects such as the completion of the Palmetto Trail and the historical restoration of Andrew Jackson’s pompadour.
