Paranormal stories form an important part of a town's history, explaining why locals shy away from a particular mansion and who is collecting people's recycling on alternate Tuesdays. Investigate unexplained phenomena with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $19.50 toward ghost tours, events, investigations, classes, and merchandise at Paranormal Adventures. Meeting locations depend on the tour, investigation, or classes chosen; see the website for more information.

Paranormal Adventures regales skeptics and believers with an amalgam of history and local legends shared by a staff of authors, historians, genealogists, and trained paranormal investigators. On October 1, the Ghost Tour of Kansas City ($19.50, 8 p.m.) takes patrons through the streets and ethereal planes of downtown as a guide imparts the chilling narratives that surround a haunted high school, Memorial Hall, and the business district. Guests sip on regional wines and nibble appetizers while listening to sobering accounts of apparitions during the Ghost and Grapes Event at the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita on September 10 from 1 p.m.–4 p.m. ($30, ages 21+), which features a walking tour of the haunted buildings and a stop at the museum's creepiest water fountain.

During ghost tours ($19.50 each), guests have reported paranormal sightings and at least one run-in with a cobweb in parts of buildings normally closed off to the general public. However, all tours keep to public locations, avoiding private homes and metaphorical haunts.
