Gershwin's magnificent An American in Paris is the high point of an evening of beautiful classical music at Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium. Acclaimed Music Director David Lockington conducts the Pasadena Symphony and Pops, who will be joined by the remarkable Joyce Yang on piano. Yang was the youngest Van Cliburn International Piano Competition silver medalist in 2005. Heralded as "the most gifted pianist of her generation," she plays with top orchestras around the world. An American in Paris, a jazzy, rhapsodic portrait of the French capital, was inspired by Gershwin's time in the City of Lights in the 1920s. You'll also hear Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, Satie's Gymnopedie, Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major and Fauré's Pelléas et Mélisande Suite.
