Horses are some of the most perceptive animals, as evidenced by the saying, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't explain his intimate knowledge of your childhood fears." Tap into equine insight with today's Groupon: for $40, you get an Introduction to Horses Class at Patch Wood Farm in Sandown, New Hampshire (a $100 value). This class is valid for kids ages 5–15.
Patch Wood Farm is a family-oriented operation offering different levels of riding lessons through the beautiful New Hampshire countryside every day of the week. The Introduction to Horses class teaches children ages 5–15 the art of horse-handling, training students in disciplines such as nutrition, tacking, and the casting process necessary before horses can be used on merry-go-rounds. Each three-hour session begins at 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from June 30–August 26, and divides children into small groups, rotating junior gauchos through basic horsemanship lessons before finishing up with a riding session. Class sizes are limited; parents are encouraged to register two weeks in advance.
Patch Wood Farm cares deeply about its animals, keeping them in top condition as well as rescuing horses from abusive conditions.
