The museum preserves historic ships and aircraft, such as the USS Yorktown (CV-10), which earned a total of 16 battle stars in both World War II and Vietnam. It also recovered the astronauts from the Apollo 8 capsule, and showcased in the Academy Award-winning documentary The Fighting Lady, which, contrary to popular belief, is not about Margaret Thatcher’s boxing career.
Other sites include the National Historic Landmark USS Laffey, which survived attacks at D-Day and Okinawa, acted as a support ship during the A-bomb test at Bikini Atoll, and earned two battle stars during the Korean War.
