Sometimes a pair can get a lot more done than one alone, as evidenced by Laurel and Hardy, milk and honey, and blinking and crying. Let your eyes see and work well together with today's Groupon to a Halloween scavenger hunt from PDX Hunt on Saturday, October 22 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Participants must register their team and one cell phone for hunt-related text-message clues by October 18. Choose from the following options:
- For $35, you get registration for a two-person team (a $70 value).
- For $70, you get registration for a four-person team (a $140 value).
- For $105, you get registration for a six-person team (a $210 value).
Participants must have a vehicle to compete in the scavenger hunt, and each team should come equipped with $5, a digital camera, flashlights, a cellphone with internet access, and a GPS or metro area city street map. Children are welcome to join the scavenger hunt.
Rain or shine, on Saturday, October 22, PDX Hunt transforms Portland into a quest-laden underworld crawling with costumed scavengers wielding flashlights. Spurred on by cash prizes and winning spirits, teams of 2–6 hunters puzzle out texted clues to deduce corresponding locations, to which they then dash like dogs to spilled hot-dog water. Roving explorers and their vehicle band together and begin anywhere they choose within the game boundaries to gain an advantage when the first texts are sent at 7 p.m. At various locations, crews must capture their likenesses in a flash-assisted photo and search for a hidden item. Groups must stay together at all times, lest wanderers fall prey to competing gangs or become distracted by lurking shadow puppeteers.
An after-party concludes the event at a local pub with announcements of winners, prize distribution, and food and drink specials. Top finishers can win up to $500, spectacular team costumes can snag up to $100, the best Facebook-posted photo nets $50, and superior sportsmanship earns players a high-five from their other hand. Exact details about the party will be texted mid-hunt.
PDX Hunt pits teams against each other during treasure and beer hunts as they scour cities in search of checkpoints in order to win cash and prizes. Hunts are held in various cities across the country, with teams getting acquainted with their own city and one another as they fight for bragging rights. Text-messaged clues point contestants in the right direction, leading them to secret locations to which they then dash like dogs to spilled hot-dog water. At various locations, crews must complete unique tasks. Moving on foot or city bus, groups must stay together at all times, lest wanderers fall prey to competing gangs or become distracted by lurking shadow puppeteers. After the races, which can sometimes cover 4–6 miles, the top 10 placing teams receive prizes and glory for their skillful navigation of the town.
