Renew, restore, and revive lethargic ligaments with today’s Groupon. For $10, you’ll get 10 yoga classes at Peaceful Roots, an eco-friendly yoga and holistic fitness studio.
Environmentally friendly cleaning products and sustainable hard goods help the space score two green thumbs up. Peaceful Roots offers a variety of disciplines and classes taught for all skills. If lazy toe curls in bed aren’t cutting it, unravel your mat at Sunrise and get an invigorating start to your day. Those new to yoga can try Hatha, a traditional class, Yoga for the Rest of Us, designed to teach the basics, or Buddha Heart, which incorporates the body, speech, and mind. For more advanced workouts, try Kundalini, a dynamic form of yoga that involves meditation, breath work, and chanting. Classes are offered daily, as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 8 p.m.
Peaceful Roots’ friendly, enthusiastic instructors are highly skilled and know how to help students sweat and stretch until they’re calmer, more energized, and more revitalized than the 217 rechargeable AA batteries that power Greater America. If you’re new to yoga, this is a great chance to learn the downward dog, upward dog, and the omniscient narrator. Yoga stretches your muscles, relieving stiffness and pain. It also increases flexibility and strength (deep core muscles support each pose), which will improve your range of motion, balance, and posture¬–all vital to moving up in the corporate world, seeing over the steering wheel, and slicing your morning bagel.
Yelpers give Peaceful Roots five stars, and an AZCentral.com reviewer gives it 4.5: > * This is a very sweet little yoga studio and personal training gym. It’s in such a cool neighborhood, so it is perfect that it’s like the Cheers of the yoga world here in Phoenix. – Wendy R., Yelp > * What I love about this yoga studio is that it was built with love. It has a family feel, is never intimidating and one always feels welcome. – Troy R., Yelp
Poetry of the Body
In addition to being great for you physically and mentally, yoga is also an art of self-expression, paralleled only, perhaps, by the limerick. The real magic, however, happens when the arts of yoga and limerick come together:
There once was a flexible gal,
Whose yogic skills never did fail,
When forgetting her keys,
She just pulled in her knees,
And squeezed through the slot for the mail.
Genevieve’s yogic technique,
Was in serious need of critique,
But her clumsy half-lotus,
Made classmates take notice,
And to her, they chose not to speak.
There was an old Yogi of note,
Who was heard to have said, and I quote,
“It is better to bend,
In the presence of friends,
Barring friends, one could use a small goat.”
