Almost anything can be improved with music, as evidenced by tuba-accompanied balcony serenades, operatic State of the Union addresses, and yodeled bank statements. Tune your ears to the sweet sounds on stage with today’s Groupon: for $26, two people get sangria and a show at Peña Pachamama, located in North Beach (up to a $52 value).
Before stealing the identity of an Andean goddess, the Peña Pachamama was a popular San Francisco restaurant known as Amelio's, where guests including Clark Gable, Dean Martin, and Bing Crosby gathered to plot celebrity coups. Now, the venue entertains guests with a tasty menu of organic Bolivian cuisine and live world music five nights a week. Today's Groupon sends two concertgoers to a show at the Peña (up to $18 per person), which hosts tune masters such as charango player Eddy Navia, Sukay co-founder Quentin Navia, and myriad other musicians who reverberate the venue's chambers with flamenco, salsa, and samba beats. While ears are sonically satiated, customers can sip glasses of sangria ($8 each) to appease empty paunches.
Although edibles aren't included in the Groupon value, guests can supplement their potables with tasty tapas such as salteñas (beef- or veggie-filled Bolivian empanadas, $6.95), organic quinoa ($5.95), or plantains with black bean puree ($7.95). Find a friend who won't betray you for your sangria and enjoy an evening of music at Peña Pachamama.
