From Coachella to the opera house, eighth blackbird (yes, all lowercase) is one of the most adventurous instrumental ensembles in chamber music today, combining the finesse of a string quartet, the energy of a rock band and the audacity of a storefront theater company. The Chicago-based Grammy-winning "super-musicians" (according to the LA Times) are known for collaborating with musicians who straddle the rock and classical worlds, and come to the Irvine Barclay Theatre with an all-new, six-piece, evening-legth work called Hand Eye. Written in collaboration with composer sextet Sleeping Giant, Hand Eye is fizzing with the alchemy of twelve unique personalities and embraces diverse worlds.
