A founding father of the Neapolitan School of opera, Alessandro Scarlatti was one of the greatest operatic composers of his time and an important voice in bringing together early Italian Baroque with classical 18th-centry musical styles. Nearly 300 years since the work's premiere performance, conductor Nicholas McGegan will lead the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra through Scarlatti's recently discovered serenata La Gloria di Primavera at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Presented by the Philharmonic Society, this allegorical work surrounding the birth of the Habsburg empire heir will feature powerhouse vocals from mezzo-soprano Diana Moore, soprano Suzana Ograjensek, tenor Nicholas Phan, baritone Douglas Williams and more.
