What You'll Get
In the late 1800s, thousands of Texans struck it rich when they tapped into veins of thick, dark, tangy barbecue sauce (as chronicled in the Oscar-winning film There Will Be Sauce). Taste this natural bounty while it's still hot from the earth with today's deal. For $20, you get $40 worth of barbecue favorites and drinks for pick-up at Phoebe's Bar-B-Q. This Groupon is good for pick-up only at Phoebe's South Street location; Phoebe's does not offer dine-in services.
A Philadelphia favorite since 1994, Phoebe's serves up Oklahoma-style barbecue, a mélange of the barbecue styles of Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis. If it at one time oinked, mooed, or crossed the road to get to the other side, it's on Phoebe's menu and slathered with sweet barbecue sauce. Patrons with a preference for porcine platters can tear into seven pork ribs with two sides and corn bread ($15.49) or enjoy a pulled-pork sandwich with coleslaw ($5.49). Cow tippers wishing to take malice to the next level may opt for a full rack of beef ribs ($17.49) or a platter with a half-pound of beef brisket, two sides, and corn bread ($12.49). Phoebe's also serves rotisserie chicken in a variety of sizes and formats, including 20 wings ($9.49), 100 wings ($38.99), or the whole bird ($9.49). There are also numerous combination platters and meal deals for large parties with large appetites, small parties with large appetites, or one guy with a lot of time on his fork-wielding hands.
A person can always tell when the barbecuexplosion has been through town, because of the molasses footprints and carelessly flung bibs that pave the streets. Start vindicating sauce stains by perusing Phoebe's slate of smoked meats, savory sauces, and succulent sides. Then place your order for pick-up and keep an extra dining shirt in your back pocket.
The Philadelphia City Paper says:
- Pork and beef ribs, pulled BBQ pork, wings and the variety of sides (candied yams, roasted veggies, “sneaky” spiced greens, mac and cheese) are all respectable, but the rotisserie chicken is an absolute must.
- Super delicious tender juicy mouth watering everything you would want from BBQ...The meat is tasty delicious and falls off the bone. – CSMobileUser, Citysearch
- Best BBQ not only in Philly but that I have ever eaten!! The mac & cheese is by far my favorite. The sweet corn bread [sic] a close second. – JRoot1007, Citysearch

About Phoebe's Barbecue
In a city known for its cheesesteaks, it can be difficult to find a beef brisket smoked to Midwestern perfection. Enter Anastasio Botsaris, the chef and owner of Phoebe's Barbecue. Botsaris and his pit crew call forth a wide array of Oklahoma-style barbecue meats from the fires of their kitchen. They stress simplicity above all else, letting their smoked rotisserie chickens and pulled-pork sandwiches speak for themselves. They don't skimp on the sides, either, which include candied yams and collard greens, which are best washed down with a tall pint of barbecue sauce.
