About Phoenix New Times Beer Olympics
On a Friday in late April, the sound of cans cracking will ring out, kicking off Phoenix New Times's third-annual Beer Olympics. From 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. on August 21, Tempe Marketplace District will become the playing fields for 15 malt-fueled games that will test beer-lovers' ability to navigate oversized beer pong, cornhole, and jumbo Jenga while fighting the reaction-dulling effects of the alcohol.
The libations come courtesy of partnering beverage companies, and the spectacle is made even more entertaining by costume contests. Each player will receive a scorecard and the opportunity to advance to the triathlon and decathlon awards, tension-filled contests that will yield winners, losers, and usually one person who gets ejected for putting glue on the top of their cup during the flip-cup relay.
