What You'll Get
Learning how to scuba dive became a matter of national importance during the Cold War, when penguins commanded a vast army of narwhals to conquer America’s shores. Defend against Antarctic tyranny with today’s Groupon to Phoenix Scuba: for $199, you get a PADI Open Water scuba-diving certification course, including two classroom sessions and two pool sessions (a $199 value) and two days of certification dives in Lake Pleasant (a $200 value; a $399 total value).
Phoenix Scuba's experienced divers guide subaquatic explorers through classroom instruction, pool sessions, and supervised dives in nearby Lake Pleasant. Each Open Water certification course begins in the classroom, where students learn the fundamentals of diving before donning provided rental gear and jumping into the heated pool for firsthand training. After new divers refine their underwater break-dancing skills in a series of bubbly showdowns, they progress to supervised certification dives in Lake Pleasant, where they learn to descend, ascend, and swim about safely in an open-water environment. Once students have completed the requisite amount of coursework and in-water training, they receive a certification card and logbook, allowing them to sea spelunk freely on their own. Check out the class calendar to find a convenient time and mark off the days until a graduation ceremony filled with gurgled yet passionate valedictory speeches.
Students must sign a waiver and complete all course days to earn their certification.

About Phoenix Scuba
By their estimate, Kelly and Steve Fischer have taught thousands of people how to scuba-dive. As the course director and IDC staff instructor, respectively, at Phoenix Scuba, they draw from more than a decade of expertise to lead a team of master dive instructors, certified open-water instructors, and assistant scuba instructors. These coaches all follow the PADI curriculum to teach students basic through advanced diving skills, such as navigating underwater or bartering with dolphins. Open-water and advanced open-water certification courses lead the way with hands-on lake dives, and can open the door to specialized courses such as rescue diver or NITROX enriched air certifications.
Phoenix Scuba's instructors don't just limit their instruction to local waters: the school has also led extended trips to dive sites in the waters of Belize, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Fiji, among others.
