What You'll Get
The Russians are coming to Phoenix Symphony Hall as the orchestra performs a trio of pieces by that country's most honored composers -- Stravinsky, Shostakovich and Rimsky-Korsakov. Young musician and conductor Teddy Adams makes his debut with the symphony, and Israeli cellist Amit Peled tackles Shostakovich's challenging Cello Concerto No. 1 as the guest soloist. The concert's set to open with Stravinsky's Scherzo a la Russe and builds to a dramatic finale with Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, a dazzling, colorful symphonic suite that evokes the exotic setting of the Arabian Nights.
