While the fork is popular, it lessens the dining experience by stripping you of your ability to take advantage of the human hand's sense of taste. Today’s Groupon provides plenty of forkless eating options for breakfast or lunch with $25 worth of wraps, paninis, and signature sandwiches for $10 at Picasso's Café in Irwindale.

Picasso's applies its esteemed catering cred toward crafting quality café eats. The cozy café is home to inspired breakfast and lunch choices. Starbucks brews, espresso drinks, and a wide variety of day encouragers, such as crumby muffins (starting at $1.95), assorted scones ($1.75 for petite, $2.75 for large), and a hot ham and cheese croissant sandwich ($9.25), get the morning off to a satisfying start, just like the flare gun you fire underneath your pillow every morning.

For lunch, Picasso serves a variety of sandwiches, wraps, and paninis, all of which have mastered the stuff-inside-stuff food formula. Bread-covered bites include a meatball and mozzarella sandwich ($7.95 for regular size) and the secretary sandwich, which lands you a choice of albacore tuna or chicken salad on a croissant with cottage cheese or fresh fruit ($9.25). Salads include seared ahi tuna bedded atop shredded cabbage and saturated with a house sweet-soy wasabi dressing and crispy rice noodles ($14.50). The café also features a modest selection of vegetarian grub including a garden-happy sandwich and grilled cheese middled with roasted peppers and tomato slivers ($9.50).

Easily transportable, sandwiches and salads are the ideal lunchtime meal or surprise elevator-companion present. You get a variety of food groups in every bite without using a blender and drinking them. Redeem your Groupon anytime weekdays for lunch or breakfast from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Reviews

CityVoter calls Picasso’s Café the one of the top five places for Mediterranean food in LA, and check out what the Los Angeles Times and the Pleasure Palate blog have to say about it:

  • Serving Southern California since 1989, Picasso's award winning culinary team creates plate masterpieces portraying California cuisine with a stylish, contemporary flair. Picasso’s is the place to be and the place to be seen for business dining. – Los Angeles Times
  • Overall, Picasso's is a great lunch spot. For the most part, the service is quick. The food is pretty good and you have something to look forward [sic] other than the next burger. – Pleasure Palate

Two OpenTablers and nine Yelpers give Picasso’s four stars:

  • After spending some time looking for a "nice" restaurant in the Duarte/Irwindale area for an important business meeting, I stumbled upon Picasso's. What a pleasant surprise. The online photos do not do this place justice!!! The service was way better than I expected and the food was so much better than any other place in the area! It is a great place for a business meeting but the crowd was very diverse; locals, blue-collar, white-collar...someone even brought a dog on the patio (outdoor seating it is pet-friendly!! Who knew?). When I told the server it was my first visit, they brought me a free dessert! I will be back. – OpenTable user who dined on 02/05/2010

About Picasso Cafe

In the midst of successful careers in the corporate and educational realms, the head chef of Picasso's Cafe, Bakery & Catering Co., Vincent DeRosa, and his wife Maria decided to make use of their artistic leanings by opening a sustainable-focused café and catering business. The same creative side that fueled Chef DeRosa's training as a classical pianist inspired him to craft a menu evocative of Picasso's vibrant masterpieces alongside executive chef and lifelong culinary virtuoso Paul Vigil. With help from a professionally trained staff and singing appliances, the culinary duo delivers a colorful, creative menu flanked by a veritable trophy room of awards and press.

As early as 7 a.m., diners can greet the day with a selection of fresh baked goods and full breakfast dishes, which range from light meals of coffee, a muffin, and granola-topped yogurt to salsa-tinged breakfast wraps stuffed with eggs, bacon, and potatoes. As the hours wear on, the encyclopedic lunch menu comes into play: salads, paninis, wraps, and towering sandwiches share table space with such pasta dishes as seven-cheese tortellini bathed in a marinara-alfredo sauce. But where Picasso's Cafe, Bakery & Catering Co. shines brightest may be in its catering menu. With more than two decades of experience catering for events of all sizes, the catering staff can create anything from modest boxed lunches to full-scale wedding feasts. They'll also recommend the ideal location for the event, whether it's at one of the many historic estates, museums, or other venues that call them a preferred caterer, or at their own handsome location crafted with eco-friendly principles.

From the bounty of farmers'-market produce, sustainable seafood, and hormone-free meat flecking Picasso's menu to the patio's local flora and recycled building materials, the café lives in harmony with its surrounding land. Patio diners sample light fare amid recycled-steel and recycled-wood structures and inhale the scents of lush flowers, citrus trees, and free-range wait staff. Internal features, including plug-in vehicle ports, compostable dishware, and evaporation-powered air conditioners, join low-usage generators at professionally catered events. When not acting as steward of the environment, the staff at Picasso's joins City of Hope and Children's Miracle Network in the fight against cancer and lends far-reaching relief with its own PAINT program.
