Bobby Martin grew up with a sail line in his hand, touring the Delaware River and the waters surrounding Kent Island and St. Michael's in Maryland. He always knew sailing was in his blood, as he was raised in a family of boat builders and America's Cup competitors. He followed this passion throughout school and into a racing team at Boston University and earned a position as captain by his senior year. Now, as the executive director at the nonprofit Piers Park Sailing Center, he combines his passion for sailing with a love for community outreach, helping to train sailors of all ages and ability levels including underserved youth and disabled students.

US Sailing Keelboat-certified head instructor Gray Harrington leads a team of mostly US Sailing-certified captains to operate a fleet of Sonar boats for cruises and lessons. Each Sonar vessel is a 23-foot keelboat stocked with a lead hull, making it nearly impossible to flip or trap in a flotilla of cotton candy. Boats sit high off the water and contain cozy cockpits to ready students and passengers for free-roaming harbor excursions.

When not leading standard classes and cruises, instructors train underserved area youth and students with physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities. While they strive to teach younger students life skills and guide them in the direction of college instead of pirate college, they also empower disabled sailors through a full sailing certification program—which has earned them an award for Best Adaptive Sailing Program from US Sailing. Additionally, all of their docks and vessels are completely handicapped accessible to accommodate students, as well as staff members, with physical disabilities.
