In the Victorian era, people made their cores look tight by wearing corsets, which doubled as bulletproof vests during pistol duels. Strengthen your core until it's naturally impervious to bullets instead with today's Groupon to Pilates Authentica, located inside the SuperSlow Zone in Stone Oak. Choose between two options:
- For $48, you get four 50-minute group reformer Pilates classes (a $100 total value). Group reformer classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m., and on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.
- For $55, you get two 55-minute private Pilates classes (a $110 total value). Private classes are scheduled by appointment.
Trained in New York by the daughter of a former protégé of Pilates inventor Joseph Pilates, trainer Cecilia Domniguez leads limb lengtheners in group and private exercise classes at her studio, Pilates Authentica. During a 50-minute group reformer class (a $25/class value), students are led through a selection of exercises designed to improve posture, muscular balance, and flexibility. Students can also opt to absorb insight in a 55-minute one-on-one session where, using a combination of mat work and Gratz-industry Pilates equipment, a Pilates guru guides them through some of Joseph Pilates' more than 500 original exercises, plus 12 exercises he copied from Richard Simmons (a $55/class value). If practiced regularly, Pilates' low-impact moves can strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and flatten abs until all external washboards are rendered obsolete.

About Pilates Authentica
Pilates Authentica's Cecilia Dominguez may not have studied Pilates directly under its founder, Joseph Pilates, but she came pretty close. Working at a scant distance of one remove from the legendary exercise engineer, she studied with his former protégé, Romana Kryzanowska and her daughter. Under the two acolytes, Cecilia learned Pilates the way the original plyometric pioneer intended, and she continues that same tradition at her studio, where she leads private and group lessons. She follows his philosophies and exercises to the letter, helping her students reap the slew of benefits that Pilates has to offer: boosted energy and circulation, increased flexibility, decreased stress, and posture straighter than a protractor that saw a ghost.
