Pilates, like Cupid’s arrow, targets the body's core muscles in an effort to spread endorphins and bring toned people together. Feel the muscle love with today's Groupon: for $65, you get three equipment and two mat drop-in classes at The Pilates Center of Pittsburgh, on Washington Road (a $130 value).
Founded by a professional dancer-turned-Pilates master, The Pilates Center cultivates athleticism and muscular well-being under the careful guidance of eight highly qualified instructors. A one-hour equipment, or tower, class involves mat work as well as Pilates apparatuses. The machines are designed to create greater resistance, help students develop a larger range of motion, and tickle the inner ear, forcing cores to engage and regain balance. In 45-minute mat classes, Pilates practitioners spar with gravity alone while focusing on proper alignment, breathing techniques, precision of movement, and lengthening the femur by sheer willpower. Open-level mat classes are taught at the beginner and intermediate levels.
The Pilates Center recommends having prior experience with Pilates terminology, basic movements, equipment, and the ancient Thamudic texts before attending a group equipment class. Check the schedule and then make a reservation for your drop-in class.
