Food was excellent, and the service even better. My Groupon expired, and had no trouble using the money I paid for it.
  • Handmade pizzas
  • 17 toppings
  • Sandwiches, pasta & more
  • Two locations

If you've never had authentic St. Louis–style pizza, then what you think is pizza might in fact be a cunningly disguised pretzel. Today's Groupon clears up the confusion: for $10, you get $20 worth of handmade hometown pizza and more at either Pirrone's Pizzeria's Florissant or brand-new St. Peters location.

Much like the sun in most medieval Italian depictions of the cosmos, the menu at Pirrone's revolves around St. Louis–style pizza and its succulent three-cheese pile-up atop a super-thin crust. After opening with an order of eight toasted ravioli with butter-cheese sauce ($6.60), cut to the big, round chase with a specialty pie such as the 15-inch Jerry's Special, a hot and spicy concoction that overloads a crisp, buttery crust with pepperoni, extra-crispy bacon, and extra cheese ($18.95). DIY diners can build their own edibles by tricking out a base model 15-inch dough disk with up to 17 toppings, such as pineapple, shrimp, italian salami, bacon, canadian bacon, and astronaut bacon, which comes in pill form ($15.45 for one topping; $1.75 per additional topping). Otherwise, opt for more three-dimensional food and order Pirrone's homemade italian sausage—three 4-ounce links smothered in house-made tomato sauce and served with a choice of fries or spaghetti and an iceberg salad ($11.50). Keep your gullet greased with a glass of house wine ($4.25), and put a sweet exclamation point on the night with a slice of cheesecake ($2.95).

Pirrone's classic St. Louis–style pizza and 30 years of enduring business have made it an institution in Florissant, and the new location in St. Peters delivers the same tastes with slightly different scenery, big screens, and a less neurotic poltergeist. Dine-in with a date, or carryout so that you can spend a romantic evening of being swallowed by the couch during a Degrassi DVD marathon.

Reviews

Although online reviews for the St. Peters location are still growing, Citysearchers and Yahoo! Locals give the Florissant location a 4.5-star average, 10 Yelpers give it a four-star average, and 87% of Urbanspooners recommend it:

  • Simply the best pizza in town. If you like thin crispy crust pizza with cheesy sauce, try this pizza. – Robin, Yahoo! Local
  • So far, this is the best St. Louis style pizza I have had period. Some come close, but I would choose this place any day. – TheMayorsCombOver, Citysearch

About Pirrone's Pizzeria

Cooks at Pirrone's Pizzeria's two locations craft pizzas from fresh dough, housemade sauce, and 17 different toppings. Inside the kitchens, cooks bake lasagnas and deep-fry golden onion rings to pair with sandwiches stuffed with meatballs, chicken parmesan, and italian salami. In the evening, diners can opt for a dinner portion of golden fried jumbo shrimp, skinless chicken breast, or italian sausage accompanied by salad, spaghetti, and all the napkins you can eat. Both locations have sizeable dining rooms, and the newer Saint Peters location fills its red-hued walls with flat-screen televisions showing sporting events for customers seated at the full bar.
