For over 100 years, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has been hailed as one of the best in the country. Give them a listen during their season opener, when they’ll play works by two of classical music’s greatest composers as Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the symphony in Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio italien and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 in A major, Opus 90, also known as the Italian Symphony. You’ll also hear Smith’s Star-Spangled Banner, and acclaimed Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov will join the orchestra to perform one of his own compositions, Concerto in E-flat minor for Piano and Orchestra, during this celebratory evening at Heinz Hall.
