Scientists envision a future where crust scraps will be used to fuel Americans' insatiable desire for fuel made out of crust scraps. Today's Groupon helps pass the time with $20 worth of cheese-spackled, toppings-topped, earth-friendly mealpies for $10 at Pizza Fusion, an eco-conscious pizzeria.
Pizza Fusion delivers pies in hybrid vehicles, uses eco-friendly cleaning products, gives discounts for recycled pizza boxes, donates to environmental causes, and uses utensils made from potatoes. Its planned moon-base will have a limited delivery range, but will be 100% carbon neutral.
Make your food selection by first selecting your crust (original organic white, multigrain, or gluten free, which is only available in large) and size (personal or large). Pizza Fusion's extensive list of creative specialty pies includes options for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-lovers. You can view the North Miami menu here and Fort Lauderdale menu here. Load up on dairy with a large four-cheese and sun-dried tomato pizza, a melted dairy-fest of goat cheese, mozzarella, provolone, and Parmesan ($19 Miami, $16 Ft. Lauderdale). Carnivores will appreciate a large oval-shaped barbecue chicken pie ($19/$17). Fans of vegetables can sink their teeth into the Farmer's Market pizza, an edible crust-plate piled with artichokes, red onions, roasted zucchini, and roasted portobello ($17/$14). If you're a vegan, test out the Very Vegan that's topped with crimini mushrooms, roasted garlic, tomato sauce, and choice of Daiya or Follow Your Heart Soy vegan cheese ($18/$16).
Pizza Fusion applies its same eco-beliefs to sandwiches, salads, starters, and modest selection of desserts. Plus, it serves all-natural soft drinks, as well as optional organic beer and wine. Delivery is available within a two-mile radius (for an extra $3).
Pizza Fusion was voted Best Pizza in Miami in 2009 by the Miami New Times:
- It's tough to take artery-clogging fare like pizza and turn it into an eco-friendly, health-conscious option, but North Miami's outpost of Pizza Fusion does so with a casual confidence that belies its high-concept pies. Luckily, those pies are damn tasty... – Miami New Times
- At last, you don't have to take your vegan cheese with you! And everything is organic. You can even have a wholemeal base. I can recommend the vegan option - it is absolutely delicious! – James G., Urbanspoon
- This isn't greasy, unhealthy, giant slices pizza, its good balanced pizza. The restaurant has a nice modern feel and is one of the few green-minded franchises in the country! – Heather F., Yelp
Important Moments in Nuclear Fusion
Pizza Fusion takes its name from a relatively modern concept: nuclear fusion. Here are some important moments in the history of nuclear fusion:
1905: Einstein's famous equation, E = mc2, hypothesizes a fusion-style reaction, while Einstein himself hypothesizes a romance between Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins.
1946: Designer bombs tested at Bikini Atoll create a variety of decorative cloud shapes, including beach ball, dolphin, and silhouette of the United States.
1978: Attempts to use nuclear fusion to prevent illusionist David Copperfield from appearing on TV are largely successful.
2010: Simultaneous, worldwide experiments with nuclear fusion result in the renewed popularity of player pianos and the transformation of friendly cats into gigantic-instrument-of-mayhem cats.
