Scientists envision a future where crust scraps will be used to fuel Americans’ insatiable desire for fuel made out of crust scraps. In honor of Earth Day, today's Groupon helps pass the time with $20 worth of cheese-spackled, toppings-topped, earth-friendly mealpies for $10 at Pizza Fusion, an eco-conscious pizzeria.
Pizza Fusion delivers pies in hybrid vehicles, uses eco-friendly cleaning products, gives discounts for recycled pizza boxes, donates to environmental causes, and uses utensils made from potatoes. Its planned moon-base will have a limited delivery range but will be 100% carbon neutral.
Make your food selection by first selecting your crust (original organic white, multigrain, or gluten-free, which is only available in large) and size (personal or large). Pizza Fusion's extensive list of creative specialty pies includes options for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-lovers. Load up on dairy with the four cheese and sun-dried tomato, a melted lactose-fest of goat cheese, mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan ($8 for personal, $21 for large). Carnivores will appreciate the barbecue-chicken pizza, a circular way to enjoy the summertime classic with free-range chicken slathered in barbecue sauce, roasted red onion, fresh garlic, and basil, and cheese ($8.50 for personal, $23 for large). Fans of vegetables can sink their teeth into the farmer's-market pizza, an edible crust-plate piled with artichokes, red onions, roasted zucchini, and roasted portobellos ($7 personal, $19 large). Vegans can test out the very vegan, topped with crimini mushrooms, roasted garlic, tomato sauce, and soy vegan cheese ($8 for personal, $21 for large).
Pizza Fusion applies its same eco-beliefs to sandwiches ($8.50–$9.25), salads and starters ($5–$10), and a modest selection of desserts ($3–$4.75). Plus, it serves all-natural soft drinks, as well as optional organic beer and wine. Delivery is available within a two-mile radius (for an extra $3).
Food & Drink, Nation’s Restaurant News, and Entrepreneur have all spilled ink on the Pizza Fusion franchise. Kansas City Healthy Living Examiner and Gayot have both praised the Leawood location, and 80% of Urbanspooners recommend it.
- Since opening the first outpost in Fort Lauderdale in 2006, they have multiplied the concept, franchising it into an eco-friendly, organic and gluten-pesticide-free eatery. Bite into a very hearty sampling of pies, ranging from organic eggplant and fresh mozzarella to Greek, vegan and spinach and artichoke. – Gayot
- What makes Pizza Fusion different from other pizza places...everything! Their concern for your health and for the environment co-founders Michael Gordon and Vaughan Lazar committed to an earth-minded approach to their pizza. – Lou Ann Donovan, Kansas City Healthy Living Examiner
