Running isn't as fun when you're alone, much like yelling about spring break. Get sweaty with this Groupon.
- $15 for registration for one to the PJ5K ($35 value)
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, participants dressed in their finest pajamas race around the PJ5K course in Overland Park. Afterward, racers grab snacks and drinks provided by several area grocery stores, restaurants, and coffee shops. All participants will receive a Haitian-made Global Orphan T-shirt and a bag of Haitian coffee. The top three finishers in each age group will win a customized PJ5K medal. Read the FAQs here.
The proceeds from the 5K will be used for orphan prevention and helping Haitian kids receive an education. The Global Orphan Project, Colonial Presbyterian Church’s Student Ministries, and Crossfirst Bank are partnering together to help achieve these goals.
Like a job as a mattress salesman, the PJ5K pajama-themed 5K race is on its face just an opportunity for people to wear pajamas outside of their homes and feel accepted by society. But in reality, it's so much more than that. It's a chance for participants to help Haiti. The race partners with the Global Orphan Project—an orphan care ministry intent on preventing orphanhood in Haiti and boosting Haiti's economy with its GO Exchange initiative.
During the race, people of all ages don pajamas and compete in 5K and Junior Jammie runs, which range from 50 yards to a quarter mile. Runners will receive a GO T-shirt and a discount on GO pajama pants, the proceeds of which will feed one Haitian child for a month. On top of everything, general proceeds from the day's events will also go toward the ministry's noble projects.
