The Scots developed golf to irk common loch pests, like merats, locharoaches, and Nessie, who to this day rarely surfaces for fear of being beaned by a well-aimed ball. Brush up your monster-vexing skills with today's Groupon: for $28, you get 18 holes of golf and a cart for you and a partner, plus a large bucket of balls for warming up (up to a $64 value) at Point Venture Golf Club in Point Venture. You can also combine two Groupons to accommodate an entire foursome. This Groupon does not include tax.
Point Venture Golf Club's nine-hole, par-36 course packs 2,815 yards (from the white tees) of continuous orb-crushing entertainment into one compact, elliptical space. Much like any 38-year-old, the course has had its share of ups and downs, but under its new management, Point Venture Golf Club is experiencing a veritable renaissance that has returned the quality of play to its glory days. Hop into one of the club’s provided carts and zoom across the lush greenery, avoiding the sand traps and Sarlacc pits while soaking in the peninsular views of surrounding Lake Travis. The course's signature hole, the 358-yard par-4 number 7, highlights the lake magnificently as it doglegs left beneath an opening in the trees. The course is suitable for players of all skill levels, although beginners should expect some challenging aspects of play. The 355-yard par-4 second hole features a dogleg-left that bends almost 90 degrees at the 200-yard mark, and golfers can find the course’s classic Tifgreen bermudagrass greens somewhat hard to read. On the other hand, Point Venture Golf Club has removed its machine-gun emplacements and golfers no longer have to fight a level boss before advancing to the next hole.
Golf with friends is the best kind of bonding. There's nothing like being out in the open air, hearing the wind blow through the beautiful old trees lining the well-groomed fairways, and refusing to grant your compadres mulligans. The satisfaction of a well-played hole is amplified by the enjoyment you get from your partner's three-shot spectacle in the woodsy rough. Along with the pleasures of hitting tiny things with metal clubs, the Point Venture Golf Club also features a golf store, practice area, and a floating restaurant for after-hole meals, so grab a Groupon and enjoy a sunny day spent comparing Bill Murray impressions with one’s closest compatriots.

Point Venture Golf Club
Designed by three-time Masters champion Jimmy Demaret, Point Venture Golf Club's nine-hole course cleaves through thickets of cedar trees along the north shore of Lake Travis. Although narrow fairways and small greens offer a challenge to advanced golfers, novice players can swing freely as the course is free of water hazards, bunkers, and wormholes disguised as divots. A relatively short course, Point Venture’s display of sharp doglegs frequently forces players to take shorter clubs to the tee box, effectively lengthening the course. Conversely, the winding fairways may tempt golfers to go for the high-risk, high-reward play of unsheathing their drivers at the tee, flying the corner, and setting up a short approach to the green.
