- 2011 schedule focuses on theater adapted into movies
Live theater tends to be more thrilling than film, largely due to the heightened odds of seeing someone flub a line, spontaneously combust, or deliver a stirring monologue while sitting in your lap. Vicariously live the spontaneous life of thespians with today’s Groupon to The Pointe Performing Arts Center. Choose from four options:
- For $10, you get any regular single-show ticket (a $20 value).
- For $99, you get 10 regular tickets to separate shows for one person (a $200 value).
- For $40, you get the family pack, which is four tickets to any single show (an $80 value).
- For $7, you get any senior or student single-show ticket (must show valid ID) (a $15 value).
Seating is first come, first served upon booking.
A live performance venue for off-Broadway plays and musicals, The Pointe has tailored its 2011 performance schedule to its theme From Stage to Screen and Back Again. A new production premieres each month, starting with Xanadu (April 21–May 8), which follows the mythical Greek Muse, Kira, as she embarks on a quest to inspire a struggling artist in 1980s Venice Beach to invent the first roller disco—the third-greatest invention of all time after the taco and the wall-mounted singing bass. Forward-thinking dramaturges also get to look forward to fresh adaptations of Proof (June 2–June 19), Steel Magnolias (August 11–August 28), and Rent (September 22–October 9). Showtime strikes at 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday, with Sunday shows starting at either 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.
