Often employed by athletes recovering from workouts or injuries, cryotherapy uses subzero temperatures to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and increase mobility. During each session, guests spend 2–3 minutes inside a cryotherapy chamber attached to a mobile treatment facility. Though the skin’s surface temperature can drop to 32 degrees, the treatment’s short duration keeps guests’ core temperatures at normal levels. Read the FAQs here and see the location schedule here.
One of the many results of pain is decreased mobility, making it difficult to leave the house for treatment. That's why Polar Therapeutics offers cryotherapy on wheels. The mobile treatment facility travels throughout Portland, stopping for one-time and weekly appointments. Read on to learn more about the relatively new treatment:
What happens during a session?
Clients dressed in dry undergarments or bathing suits put on the provided gloves and socks, then step into the subzero cryotherapy chamber. They remain in there for up to three minutes, a short enough duration to cool the skin but keep core temperatures at normal levels. Clients get a robe to wear as they enter the chamber and when they step out.
What are cryotherapy's benefits?
Upon exiting the cryotherapy chamber, clients will likely feel more energized. Cryotherapy is also designed to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and increase circulation and flexibility, all of which may be noticeable immediately or on the same day of treatment. Other benefits, such as stronger hair and nails and weight loss, may require several sessions to see results.
Who uses cryotherapy?
Senior citizens and those suffering from inflammation, chronic pain, and autoimmune disorders often use cryotherapy. It is also popular among amateur and professional athletes alike, as it helps alleviate sore muscles and speed up their recovery times.
