With today's side deal, $12 gets you one ticket to Chopiniade, a marathon concert of Chopin music performed by the Portland Chamber Orchestra. Choose from the following performances:
- Friday, September 10 at 7:30 pm at the Venetian Theatre in Hillsboro
- Saturday, September 11 at 7:30 pm at the Kaul Auditorium at Reed College
Chopiniade, a tribute to Frederic Chopin, will celebrate his accomplishments in honor of his 200th-anniversary year. Though otherwise engaged on the nights of these performances, Chopin himself would surely be delighted to witness his solo piano works performed by the talented Mei-Ting Sun with accompanying choreography by John Magnus, esteemed artistic director of the Portland Festival Ballet. The classical spectacular will also feature the world premiere of Homage to Chopin an orchestral ballet suite by Katerina Kramarchuk, a young local composer. Chopin's own Concerto for Piano and Orchestra no. 1 in E Minor will conclude the canorous concert.
The Saturday performance marks the opening of the Portland Chamber Orchestra's 2010/2011 season. To celebrate, Kaul Auditorium at Reed College will host an all-day exhibition of talented youth performers as young as 11, as well as a master class taught by Mei-Ting Sun.
