Potomac Paddlesports tours are designed for beginners—the kayaks are stable, the waters of the Potomac are calm, and the instructors are instructive. Before heading out on the open water, you'll learn proper paddling technique and kayak basics. Then, during the monument adventure tour, you'll glide through the scenic waters while Potomac Paddlesports' gung-ho guides tell tales of and offer insight into the historical background of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Georgetown area, and Tidal Basin. The vessel's effortless gliding and unobtrusive nature allows you to experience nature's calmness without disturbing the changing foliage or hungry beaver population.
Potomac Paddlesports' 2010 tour season lasts until early November, and the 2011 season starts in May (this Groupon expires on 9/1/2011), allowing you to catch the changing of the seasons from spring into summer, summer into fall, and fall before it turns into a robotic Bing Crosby. Paddle times will be extended if necessary. Call to schedule a tour.

At Potomac Paddlesports, the first professional paddlesports school to be endorsed by the American Canoe Association, the team of American Canoe Association– and British Canoe Union–certified instructors patiently lead students through a methodical progression of flat-water paddling skills. The classes cover a variety of watersports, including whitewater rafting, river and sea kayaking, and standup paddling. The small-group classes are designed to keep students engaged, and longer trips down the Potomac challenge their skills with powerful rapids surrounded by lush scenery, interspersed with rare glimpses of bears putting on their bear suits. Outside of class, students can bond with fellow paddlers during weekly sushi meals and occasional movie nights. Further demonstrating their dedication to bodies of water, Potomac Paddlesports works to preserve the nation’s rivers, estuaries, and oceans, sharing this passion with its members through advocacy and donations to conservation programs.
