The existence of prehistoric pottery shards paints a clear picture of ancient artisanal practices and highlights ancestral clumsiness. Leave behind traces of your own civilization with today’s Groupon: for $80, you get an introductory pottery class for two at Pottery Loft Studio in Everett (a $160 value).
Owned and operated by well-known Everett artist Evelia A. Sanchez, Pottery Loft Studio serves up sessions for both seasoned and novice clay workers. The introductory pottery class incorporates two 90-minute sessions, each of which accommodates up to 8 artists. In the first session, couples manipulate clods of moist mud, massaging them on the spinning wheel or shaping and sculpting them by hand and whispering sweet nothings about their futures as coffee mugs or branding-iron trivets. After the clay creations have dried, twosomes return for the second session, using glaze to add color and definition to their forms before they’re fired in the kiln. All supplies are included, and the only limit on the number of pieces to construct is time, which, like a charging Energizer bunny, cannot be stopped.
Pottery Loft Studio
An award-winning artist, Evelia A. Sanchez passes her knowledge onto others during group classes at her pottery studio. She limits the amount of students—no more than six per class—in order to provide personal, hands-on instruction with pottery wheels. Evelia also designs private lessons around students' specific goals, be they to learn a new skill or build the world's largest fruit bowl.
