Q:

I know someone already asked this question, but I just wanted to get clarification. If I am not local, could I complete this course in a few sessions? I'm going to be on vacation in the area in September. Can I complete the classroom and pool sessions then - are the classroom/pool sessions done over 2-3 days and then return at a later time for the checkout dives? Thanks.

Q:

Was this business previously known by another name? I have had a hard time finding reviews for it on yelp or other review sites, and the address brings up Joe Liburdi's Dive & Photo only, with no mention of your business.

Erin F.  asked on  Jul 24, 2012

A:

We are Private Scuba. Have been in business for about 16 years. We do not use any other names. We are contracting with Dive and Photo for our Groupon Run.

Q:

Where do the beach dives take place? We live in Laguna Beach, walking distance to Divers' Cove, so if that's an option it would suit us perfectly. The promo indicates one per person and one gift, so I assume the gift can be for my wife and the rate would be another $200, or $400 for us to both earn our NAUI certification. Please verify. We probably won't have time to do the classes and the dives until late October, but that would be an awesome time here. Thanks. I look forward to your reply.

Q:

What's the difference between PADI and NAUI certification? Is one more recognized than the other?

Paul L.  asked on  Jul 23, 2012

A:

Great Question.... They are both well respected, internationally recognized, lifetime certifications. It is a difference in teaching styles. I used to be PADI and switched to NAUI. I feel it is more detailed in its information and skill set. Padi is a profit organization, which is why you see them all over. They put a lot of $$ into advertizing. NAUI until recently was non-profit. NAUI is the original certification agency (out of LA County). PADI followed about 10 years later. MOST IMPORTANT is not the agency. Be comfortable with whom is teaching you. Call if you like to discuss. Becky 949-307-1550

Q:

Hi Becky, My twin brother is getting a PADI certification and I'm looking forward to earning a NAUI certification with you. Will we or either of us run into any complications diving with each other or travelling abroad?

Quang N.  asked on  Jul 23, 2012

A:

No issues diving anywhere internationally with both certifications. Both are very well respected in the industry.

Q:

Are there additional fees for boat fuel, air tank, ect.?

Ryan B.  asked on  Jul 23, 2012

A:

Your Groupon includes all materials, classes, pool sessions, beach dives for certification , certification fees, free lifetime refresher courses. The only thing not provided is the personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, booties and gloves recommended but not mandatory. The shop that we contract with has packages starting very low cost up to high end gear. I can email you the packages ahead of time if you would like to check them out. Becky@privatescuba.com. There would be no other cost for full certification besides the personal gear. If you choose to do boat dives, you can gut there would be an extra fee for the boat.
