What You'll Get
"Speaking" in gestures and rhythms of many different cultures and traditions, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre proves it's possible to be multilingual without uttering a word. Moreover, you don't need Rosetta Stone to fully understand this gorgeously eloquent company: just eyeballs and a sense of wonder. New artistic director April Berry, a former principal dancer with Alvin Ailey, brings fresh vigor to the company's 40-year-long exploration of the African-American experience through modern dance. Now, after performing at the Olympics, the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center, a rejuvenated DBDT returns to the Publick Playhouse with a new program of modern, jazz, ethnic and spiritual works, all pulsing with incredible energy and emotional intensity.
