Using a ballet barre, students perform small, isolated movements to lift the seat, tone the thighs, and strengthen core muscles. The 55-minute full-body workout can burn up to 500 calories per class. Typically results may be seen after 10 classes. See the class schedule.

Pure Barre

Carrie Rezabek Dorr founded Pure Barre in 2001, and it has since grown its low-impact, high-intensity, ballet-inspired workouts to locations across the country. Mother-daughter team Elle McComb—who founded what would become the IMG Sports Academy—and Lauren McComb—an ex-cheerleader and financial advisor—operate the Tampa location. Here, they welcome students to a total-body workout that blends isometric exercise with therapeutic stretching to burn fat and build lean muscle mass. Although a soundtrack of upbeat music lends rhythm to each session, the absence of jumping, bouncing, and jackhammering prevents damage to joints. The only equipment is a ballet barre used for stability, small weights, bands, balls, and the meditative focus that turns a single hour into a boon for the body's health.

Pure Barre is a great and intense workout! You better be motivated for that one. It is a complete workout as it engages every muscle of your body: the abs, the shoulders, the glutes and legs. The music is lively and the Professor has an eye on everything. I highly recommend this workout to every woman who is willing to seriously tone up!
