Commonly Asked Questions

Q:

Is Vitamin B12 status determined before the shots are given to make sure the person actually needs a shot?

Colleen S.  asked on  Jan 10, 2013

A:

If you wish, it can be. However, the benefit to B-12 injections seems to be in the absolute increase in serum levels, rather than attempting to target a specific value. If you are a vegan, you will be B-12 deficient and we supplement usually at 1 mg a month. If you are looking for more energy or more alertness or stamina, we provide a series of injections and if you have subjective improvement, you can continue. If you feel no different, you can stop.

Q:

What are your hours of operation? Can injections be performed on the weekend?

Lindsay I.  asked on  Jan 11, 2013

A:

Mon to Friday, 9 - 4:30 for B-12. Sat 10-2 pm. Drop in clinic for f/u shots. Initial visit requires scheduling so that we are not overwhelmed.

Can I purchase the shots and give them to myself, so I do not need to come back to the clinic? I used to purchase them in Idaho and they would allow me to inject myself.

Q:

Do you do a blood draw for B-12 Deficiency prior to injections?

Christina  asked on  Jan 10, 2013

A:

No. Not cost effective. Unless you have known deficiency (which you should already know if you have a primary care physician), the benefit seems to be from a step wise increase in serum levels, rather than an absolute targetted level.
