Put an amusing twist on working out with any of the classes offered at QCDQ. A team of passionate leading ladies heads each session in a laid-back atmosphere that’s inclusive to all genders and ability levels, including lizard people disguised as world leaders and the ill-fated "Dandy" mascot of the New York Yankees. Those new to the arena of dancing outside da club can start with a toe-wetting beginning moves class. During this low-impact cardio workout, steps of basic difficulty give participants a taste of what's to come in the more advanced classes. The Hit It class mixes a little martial artistry into the dance mix, creating finessed karate kids equally adept in breaking boards and busting moves. The mixture of Middle Eastern and Western dance styles in the Urban Shimmy class infuses hip-hop into belly dancing to build muscles and hybrid dance machines that will probably never attempt to take over the world. Check the schedule for the dates, times, and locations for each 60-minute class in and around the Charlotte area.
The flexibility of this Groupon makes it easy to find time to drop by for a quick workout. Recruit a friend who operates on the same hectic schedule, such as a personal assistant fellow overnight zookeeper. Children are welcome to dance alongside mommy or daddy (for free) provided they keep up with your newfound energy.
Your month of classes can start on any day except the first of the month.
- You dance your ass off for an hour to cool hip hop and Latin rhythms. You leave feeling happy and covered with sweat. – Cynthia G., Yelp
- This group offers several types of classes, but the one we sampled was mainly hip-hop. Yes, we mean booty-grinding, club-type moves! The class was full of people from all walks of life and we literally found ourselves, for the first time in history, not embarrassed to do the low-grinding booty-bump! – waxMAMA
- Take it from someone who does not like to exercise (but does love to dance!!!) Angie's classes are like one big party!!! – Charlotte P., Queen City Dancing Queen testimonial
Queen City DanceOut
Angie Acosta, founder of Queen City DanceOut, has a simple motto for her students: "If you're moving, you're doing it right." This encouraging, low-pressure attitude attracts people of all ages to her dance-inspired fitness classes, which meet at 18 public locations. Angie and her instructors aim to make exercise feel like a celebration and a refreshing break rather than a dreaded routine. To this end, their classes incorporate intuitive dance moves and invigorating music. DanceOut, the signature course, blends genres as diverse as swing, hip-hop, and reggae into a workout, relying on repetition and basic choreography to keep everyone grooving. Other highlights of the curriculum include the Latin rhythms of Zumba; the Dance Impact class, which fuses dance and kickboxing; and JamStrong, a mixture of core-conditioning, dance, and fun.
Community is a central aspect of every DanceOut class. As pupils practice their twirls, they can follow both the teacher and the Jam Crew—a team of regulars who help make the steps easy to follow and can assist fellow dancers. In addition to group workouts, instructors host skill workshops such as Booty Bootcamp, where attendees learn rump-shaking techniques and how to turn any chair into a rocking chair. They also put on performances and lead private classes for special events and parties.
