What You'll Get
Sight, the workhorse of the five senses, puts in too many hours keeping man from falling in manholes. Give the most overworked sense a vacation with today's Groupon: for $15, you get a one-year membership (a $50 value) to the Queens Museum of Art, located in the 1,255-acre Flushing Meadows–Corona Park.
A one-year membership at the $50 level guarantees admission for the entirety of a 365-day period, a 10% discount at the museum store, and four free passes to the museum to be distributed at your leisure. Once inside the art vault, you're free to gambol with your legs and frolic with your eyes over exhibitions such as the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass, which displays lampshades, windows, and more than 200 flat glassworks made for and used by Tiffany Studios. A temporary exhibit, The Curse of Bigness, showcases pieces such as an approximately 40-micrometer-wide model of the museum, which is about 60% thinner than a strand of human hair.
The museum's crown jewel, however, is the Panorama of the City of New York, which covers 9,335 square feet. There are 895,000 individual structures represented, including every building constructed before 1992 and a few new additions (such as Citi Field), as well as landmarks, bridges, and a hobo juggling cats at the 4th and 9th R in Park Slope.
The Queens Museum of Art was named New York's Essential Museum by Time Out New York, and has been favorably featured by both Frommer's and NYC.com. Yelpers give it an average of 4.5 stars, and five Insider Pagers give it an average of four stars.
