What You'll Get
While circular racetracks prevent competitors from cutting corners, they also spawn distracting contemplations of infinity and dizziness-induced mirages of chocolate fountains. Keep your focus on track with today's Groupon for tickets to see the Rage City Rollergirls at the Dena'ina Center. Choose between the following options:
- For $16, you get two general-admission tickets for May 14 at 7 p.m. (up to a $33 value)
- For $25, you get two reserved-seating tickets for May 14 at 7 p.m. (up to a $51 value).
The Rage City Rollergirls’ skates glide swiftly across a flat track flooded with elbow nudging, hip checking, and body slinging during thrilling 30-minute roller derby bouts. Each team sends out a competitive and entertaining brood of festively decked-out skaters, comprised of blockers for defense and a jammer who scores a point with each opposing skater she passes. Rage City is a nonprofit league composed of teams that skate circles around each other in the spirit of competition.
The tournament on Saturday, May 14 pits the undefeated Dirty Polli's against the Sockeye Sallys and the Devil's Club. Reserved seating plops spectators within earshot of the trash talking, play calling, and spiteful nose picking. Slightly farther away from the flying elbows, general-admission tickets still keep eyes in view of the fast-paced action. The doors of the Dena'ina Center swing open at 6 p.m., and wheels stampede onto the scene at 7 p.m.
In addition to perpetuating amusing orbits, the Rage City Rollergirls will stand up for their fellow woman at the May 14 event by donating a portion of ticket sales to the Tundra Women's Coalition, a women's shelter in Bethel.
