What You'll Get
Thai food attempts to balance the five fundamental flavors: hot, sour, sweet, salty, and victory. Score a win for your mouth with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of Thai cuisine and drinks at Rama, located on Restaurant Row.
Rama's authentic Thai cuisine is made using French techniques and fresh ingredients from local farmers and purveyors. The tamarind- and basil-festooned menu tickles appetites with the oven-roasted snow-crab claws with spicy ginger scallion oil ($12) or the crispy duck salad with field greens, tomatoes, onions, Thai chili, and cashews ($14). Culinary contenders in the main event include kra pao with chicken ($14), coconut and lemongrass grilled tiger prawns ($18), and Crying Tiger, a grilled 10-ounce flat-iron steak ($22). To wash down the flavorful fare, Rama offers an extensive selection of wine, beer, and spirits.
Rama's museum-like setting boasts fine art, dramatic architecture, mood-setting music, and a palpable absence of sweat-ghosts. The restaurant's army of sous-chefs and battle-ready bartenders are captained by Pannuwat Soukjai, a former instructor of the culinary institute in Thailand and former executive chef of the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok.
- Rama…isn't just another bare bones neighborhood place with quick, cheap lunch specials. It's so handsome you would go there no matter what they serve. – Barbara Hansen, LA Weekly
- I loved the food, ambiance, and the overall atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and accomodating [sic] too! – OpenTable reviewer who dined on 11/05/2010
