Nestled in the scenic hill country, Rancho Cortez invites visitors to experience the true dude-ranch lifestyle. Guides saddle up horses for rides that meander along miles of hiking and riding trails. Trips can be scheduled overnight as well, allowing novice cowboys to spend an evening swapping stories around the campfire and catching some shuteye beneath the stars. The authentic experience continues upon dismounting—guests can learn to throw a lasso and watch as the ranch hands round up and feed the longhorn cattle, or they can even lend a hand with some of the daily chores, such as replacing the rooster's batteries.
But Rancho Cortez's rustic atmosphere doesn't mean that comfort is overlooked. Bunkhouses, small cabins, and family-style suites complete with large porches all provide soft beds, while indoor and outdoor pools and a hot tub encourage relaxation. The sound of a clanging bell announces mealtimes throughout the day, welcoming guests to hearty Texas spreads made using produce from the ranch's own gardens.
Rancho Cortez also offers fitness programs that take full advantage of the idyllic setting. Guests can get exercise by scrambling through the obstacle course or participating in horseback yoga, or they can head to an air-conditioned gym for circuit-training and Pilates sessions.
