About Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Mountain
There's a reason Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Mountain is a Gary Player Signature course. There's a reason, too, why GolfWeek magazine ranked it the No. 2 public course in West Virginia and the No. 30 public course in the country. In one word: terrain. From each tee, players are treated to one panoramic view after another, from the peaks and valleys of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the evergreens, lakes, and yetis that dot their slopes. But don't let the beauty fool you: it all adds up to 7,042 yards worth of challenges from the back tees: fairways can drop by as much as 200 feet between the tee and the landing area, greens roll and undulate, and sand and water hazards are often hidden behind hillocks.
Just look at Hole 18. From the tee, players must not only clear a ravine but thread their ball between a hillside on the right and a forest on the left. Even if they make that shot, the approach to the green requires them to avoid a bunker and a large rock wall. But the hole has its saving grace as well: a generous green with a subtle slope that can make a one putt achievable for a moderately skilled player.
