What You'll Get
Applying heat to an object changes it fundamentally, destroying health-promoting molecules in fruits and vegetables, transmuting wolves into dogs, and turning boredom into fireworks factory explosions. Learn how to enjoy food unsullied by flame with today's Groupon: for $45, you get a three-hour cooking workshop (a $90 value) at Raw Gourmets International in Irving Park. Each class is BYOB.
Founded by chef and restaurant owner Mehmet Ak after he lost more than 100 pounds on a raw food detox diet, Raw Gourmets International trains students in the preparation of healthy raw and vegan foods. The schedule of three-hour workshops each focus on a different type of cuisine, cycling between Asian, Middle Eastern, Mexican, and Italian styles. The instructor will teach students how to fashion a delicious uncooked organic vegan meal out of each cuisine's common ingredients, paying special attention to substitutes for animal-derived products such as meat, fat, and barnyard noises. At the end of each workshop, students sit down to eat the creations whose life cycles they've overseen during a delectable dinner while washing down the raw cuisine with a toted-along tipple.
