Steps to Becoming an Insurance Agent in New York

Step 1: Complete Required Pre-Licensing
Complete hours for your license: 90 hours Property & Casualty

Step 2: Schedule & Pass the State Exam
Schedule via PSI ($40 fee). Score 70% or higher to pass. Be sure to apply for a license within 2 years of passing.

Step 3: Apply for Your NY Insurance License
Apply online through the NYS Department of Financial Services (NY LINX). Include your certificate and pay the $80 application fee.
