Great ambiance, good selection of music at reasonable prices and you can have a beer while you shop. The owner was very nice and they have live music some nights. Great place!

What You'll Get

A well-rounded music collection is a sign of a well-rounded person, whereas a well-octagoned music collection means that you’ve been listening to stop signs on your turntable. Give the green light to recorded sound with today’s Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of vinyl and cassette tapes at Record Room, located on Northeast Killingsworth Street.

Recently lauded by the Portland Mercury, Record Room invites the vinyl-obsessed and tape-enthused to lounge in its store and peruse the eclectic selection of new and used records and cassettes. Music-lovers can be paired with their favorite efficient producers of eight notes, such as Super Wild Horses, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Mars, Nathaniel Merriweather, and more. Prices range from $1 for used vinyl to $50 for special collectible records, with most records falling into the $10–$20 range, unless they’re signed by all four members of Jimmy Carter’s famed prog-Viking-metal band. Melody mavens can take spins at different listening stations and email poetic music reviews via Record Room's free WiFi.

Although this Groupon is only valid for tracks on wax and other music-related goods, Record Room also sells sudsy domestic and microbrewed beers and wines, pairing retail with a loungey experience. DJs twirl tunes every night during happy hour (7 p.m. to 10 p.m.), and live bands bounce melodic odes off walls each Saturday. Loungers also have a selection of snacks, pop and Stumptown coffee to linger on, as well as a pinball machine for all-night gaming and a mustache machine that can turn punk rockers of all ages into their dad.

Record Room has been featured in the Portland Mercury. Six Yelpers give the store a five-star average.

  • Long bench seating runs the periphery by the windows, with tables and chairs in front. The bar/counter looks out onto bins of 12-inches, with Pabst and micros on tap behind the register. – Ethan Jayne, Portland Mercury
  • You can play the records before buying, which is terrific. Also, they thoroughly clean the used vinyl and inspect it for scratches. They really care about giving you a good experience. – Adam G., Yelp, 11/7/10
