5K beach course challenges pineapple-capped racers with wacky obstacles before party celebrates participants
What You'll Get
Wisdom is often accomplished through a series of demanding physical tasks, as evidenced by the bench-pressing portion of most bar exams. Glean seaside savvy through your adrenal glands with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get registration for one person to Beach Palooza on Saturday, November 5, at the beach in front of The Alden Beach Resort in St. Pete Beach (up to a $65 value). Each registration includes:
- One free Mike’s Harder Lemonade (participants ages 21 and up only)
- A sweet pineapple hat
- A Beach Palooza T-shirt
- A custom Beach Palooza finisher medal
- A Paloozer race bib<p>
Racers should arrive on race day 30–60 minutes before the start of the first wave at 11 a.m. with their photo IDs and completed waivers.
Beach Palooza summons adventure seekers of all types to splash through shallow tides and conquer 5 kilometers of sandy obstacles, while draped in smiles, sweat, and festive pineapple hats. Starting at 11 a.m., four race waves strew footprints across the shoreline in half-hour intervals as challengers slither through hanging noodles, scale wacky walls, and plunge into an icy pool like spring breakers in the Arctic Circle. Throughout the excursion, accurate timing microchips stored in sneakers keep the pace and eventually rank top finishers, whose efforts garner a bevy of mantle-friendly prizes and placement in a Lord of the Flies-style hierarchy. Costumed challengers celebrate beachside accomplishments with a postrace Coast Roast, featuring three hours of beer tents, beachside socializing, and live tunes.
