A brewery, like the beach, is a relaxing oasis that allows tired travelers to bask in golden hues, frolic in frothy spumes, and get in splash fights with siblings. Savor brewers’ foamy yields with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get one ticket to Explore Your Craft: San Francisco (up to a $55 value), held at The Great American Music Hall on Saturday, August 13, at 6 p.m.
Draft magazine and Portland’s Widmer Brothers Brewing unite to unleash Explore Your Craft: San Francisco, an evening-long fiesta of beer, gourmet cooking, music, and visual arts in the city’s oldest nightclub. Epicures can pair nine finely crafted pours with a menu of 16 dishes concocted by Great American Music Hall executive chef James Whitmore. Wash down plantain chips and a citrusy snapper ceviche with a malty, complex Pitch Black IPA, or bathe a rack of barbecued baby-back ribs in a mouthful of Drifter Pale Ale. Finish off with a brownie and a sip of barrel-aged Brrrbon, or a choice of three other desserts hand-delivered to diners’ mouths by a team of roller-skating teaspoons.
While they sample and sip, guests can gawk at the Great American Music Hall’s ornate marble columns and majestic ceiling frescoes. During the festival, live music, an interactive art project, and on-site painting demonstrations also enliven the stately venue, much like a subplot involving superintelligent sharks enlivens a Charles Dickens novel. Widmer Brothers cofounder, Kurt Widmer, will also be on hand to dispense his inner keg of beer lore, and each ticket-holder will leave the festivities with a souvenir glass.
