Choose Between Two Options
- $39 for an introductory Fly-Fishing 101 course with 13 trout flies (a $100 value)
- $69 for a Fly-Fishing 101 and Fly-Fishing 201 course with 13 trout flies (a $169 value)
The 101 session covers the basics of fly-fishing, from casting lines and knotting flies to reading the environment for where trout are likely to congregate. The "In the River" 201 course builds on those skills so students can practice more complicated techniques, such as creating drag-free drifts, streamer fishing, and false casting. The shop's staff provides gear for anyone that needs it and hand-selects 13 trout ties that match destinations where the student plans to fish. Both classes last about three hours and are typically held on Saturdays. Check the schedule for a complete list for class dates and times, Groupon customers may RSVP for any scheduled Fly Fishing 101 or 201 course.
Red's Fly Shop
Sample the taste of fly fishing in the wild and scenic Yakima River Canyon. Surrounded by rolling hills and the distant peaks of the Cascade Mountains, this canyon teems with wildlife on the hills, in the water, and in the air. Wild rainbow and cutthroat trout swim beneath the river's rushing waters. Inside Red’s Fly Shop is a gourmet restaurant and bar, Canyon River Grill, which is the perfect complement to thirsty sportsmen and sportswomen.
This destination attracts many fly fishers and upland bird hunters. Elsewhere in the canyon, Red’s sporting-clay course beckons guests to fire shotguns at seven different stations. These practice areas simulate real-life hunting conditions for various game-bird species, including chukars, pheasants, ducks, and other species. After hunters hone their skills on clay targets, willing sportsmen and women can join the Red's guide team for a day of guided upland bird hunting.
Whether for fishing, hunting, or both, Red's Fly Shop staffers schedule single and multiday outings that depart from The Canyon River Ranch Lodge, the company's home base. At the lodge, guests can warm themselves by the fireplace or retire to rooms with patios and verandas.
